The perinatal stage spans the period from conception through to when the baby is about 2 years old.

Perinatal mental health challenges are common. One in five mothers and one in ten fathers will experience difficulties during this period including include depression and anxiety, perinatal OCD, PTSD and postnatal psychosis.
